Another Disappointing Jobs Report

BIDEN’S POLICIES ARE SMOTHERING THE RECOVERY

The May jobs report shows that Joe Biden and Democrats are squandering the economic recovery they inherited.
The economy added back fewer jobs than expected for the second straight month – just 559,000 jobs – well below economists’ expectations.
- This was 17 percent fewer jobs than economists expected.
As American workers and businesses are still struggling to recover, and families are facing rising prices, now is not the time for Biden’s $3 trillion tax hike and $6 trillion government spending spree.
Biden and Democrats are holding back Americans from reentering the workforce.
Meanwhile, states with Republican leadership are getting Americans back to work and businesses re-opened despite Biden’s failed policies.

THE SECOND STRAIGHT MONTH WITH FEWER JOBS THAN EXPECTED

The economy added back just 559,000 jobs, below economists’ expectations for the second straight month.
- Economists had predicted 671,000 new jobs, and many had expected an even higher number, making this especially disappointing.
- In April, the economy added only 278,000 jobs, well below economists’ expectations and the biggest miss in over 20 years.
20,000 construction jobs and 5,800 retail jobs were lost in May.
Black and Hispanic workers continue to face a large jobs deficit.
At the pace of the recovery under Biden, the economy would not fully recover the jobs it lost during the pandemic until July 2022.
- This comes as no surprise, as Biden presided over the worst recovery since the Great Depression as Vice President.

AMERICANS ARE BEING LEFT BEHIND IN BIDEN’S ECONOMY

The labor force participation rate fell in May, even though this is a time when Americans should be re-joining the work force.
The number of Americans working part time for economic reasons rose in May.
7.6 million – or 34 percent - of the jobs lost from coronavirus still have not been recovered.
There are still 9.3 million unemployed American workers.
Biden’s “enhanced” unemployment benefits are holding back the economy, paying Americans more to stay at home than to return to their jobs.
- Nearly half of small-business owners say they want to hire but are struggling to find new employees.
- At least 25 states – all with Republican governors – have announced they will end this harmful policy, helping Americans get back to work and businesses hire the workers they need to return to normal.

DEMOCRATS’ TAX AND SPEND POLICIES ARE HURTING THE RECOVERY

Democrats’ lockdown policies are having a lasting effect on America’s workers, keeping many out of their jobs.
- Nearly 8 million Americans were unable to work in May because their employer was closed or had lost business because of the pandemic.
American workers and businesses are still struggling to recover, and families are facing rising prices for many staples like gas and even toilet paper.
Biden is pushing policies that will smother the economy, including $3 trillion in tax hikes and a business tax rate higher than communist China's.
Biden is failing to get children back into schools, making it difficult for many women to get back to their jobs.
- 1.5 million U.S. mothers have fallen out of the workforce, and many working moms are forced to stay home because schools have not re-opened.

CNBC’s Becky Quick: " Almost half of small business owners in the month of May said that they were having real problems trying to get people in for jobs. It’s the highest level they’d ever seen.”
Bloomberg’s Michael McKee: “It is a bit of a disappointment in the way the numbers are coming in right now.”
AEI Director Of Economic Policy Studies Michael R. Strain: “The rate at which adults are participating in the workforce has been flat since last summer. This is a significant issue. Workers are not coming back.”
Indeed Chief Economist Jed Kolko: “Exclude temporary unemployment, and the recovery looks a lot less robust.”
