The Republican Party Is Committed To Uplifting Asian Americans – A Community Failed By Bidenomics And Far-Left Politicians

REPUBLICANS ARE COMMITTED TO UPLIFTING THE APA COMMUNITY

• The RNC is celebrating this Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by continuing to engage with the APA community and welcome new members into our party of opportunity.
  • Asian Americans are the fastest-growing racial group in the country and have the highest rate of small business ownership among minority communities.
  • Approximately 5.2 million employees in the U.S. are employed by small businesses owned by Asian Americans.
  • Under President Trump, the Asian American community saw a record low unemployment rate, record high incomes, and record low poverty.
• The Republican Party has a long history of making inroads with the APA community and breaking down barriers with APA leaders. 
  • In 1959, Republican Hiram Fong became the first Asian American to serve in the Senate and in 1964 became the first Asian American to receive delegate votes as part of a presidential nominating convention.
  • In 1971, Republican Carlos Camacho became the first elected Governor of Guam.
  • In 1992, Republican Jay Kim became the first Korean American elected to Congress.
  • In 2001, President George W. Bush appointed Elaine Chao to be the first female Asian American cabinet member. 
  • In 2007, Republican Bobby Jindal became the first Indian American to be elected governor of Louisiana.
  • In 2020, Republicans Young Kim and Michelle Steel became two of the first Korean American women elected to Congress.

ASIAN AMERICANS ARE EMBRACING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

• Asian Americans are increasingly embracing the Republican Party, rejecting complacency and the failed far-left policies pushed by Biden and Democrats. 
  • 34 percent of all Asian American voters now lean or identify with the Republican Party, up from 28 percent in 2018.
  • 51 percent of Vietnamese Americans now lean or identify with the Republican Party.
  • 68 percent of people within Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (APA) communities believe the country is headed in the wrong direction under Biden.
  • 54 percent of APA adults disapprove of how Biden has handled his job as president.
• During the latest midterm election, Asian American support for Republicans jumped 17 points from 2018 to 2022, the largest shift among any minority voting group.
• In New York City, where 15 percent of residents are Asian, majority-Asian precincts swung to the right by 23 points in the 2022 gubernatorial election, compared to 2018.
• In San Francisco, where one-third of residents are Asian, Chinese immigrant membership in the Republican Party has increased 60 percent since 2019.
• Republicans made strong inroads with the Asian American community under President Trump.
  • 30 percent of all Asian American voters supported President Trump in the 2020 election, a 12-point gain from 2016.
    • 54 percent of Asian American voters in California supported President Trump in the 2020 election, a 33-point gain from 2016.
    • 28 percent of Asian American voters in New York supported President Trump in the 2020 election, an 11-point gain from 2016.

BIDEN AND DEMOCRATS' POLICIES HAVE FAILED ASIAN AMERICANS 

• Biden's $1.9 trillion "stimulus" fueled inflation, and Asian Americans bore the cost with rising prices and lower wages.
  • 66 percent of APA adults reported their household expenses increased in the past year.
  • 44 percent of APA adults report their savings have decreased under Biden.
  • Only 30 percent of APA adults feel very confident they can keep up with expenses.
• Still, Biden is doubling down with even more reckless taxes and spending at a time when Americans are paying more for just about everything.
  • Biden wants the largest tax hike in history to give the U.S. a higher business tax rate than communist China.
  • 67 percent of APA adults disapprove of Biden’s handling of inflation and 58 percent of APA adults disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy.
• Biden is working to recklessly cancel student debt, which disproportionately benefits the wealthy and students who go to ‘elite’ private colleges.
  • Just 18 percent of APA adults have student debt, while 54 percent disapprove of Biden’s handling of student debt.
• Biden gave $80 billion to the IRS for an army of 87,000 new IRS agents.
  • Asian Americans, who have some of the highest rates of small business ownership among any community, will be at risk for additional audits.
• The Biden administration sought to impose a "responsibility tax" on many homebuyers, penalizing borrowers with high credit scores and high downpayments.
  • This "responsibility tax" would have disproportionately harmed Asian Americans looking to buy a home.
  • This was only rescinded after severe backlash. 
• Biden and Democrats' pro-criminal policies have led to skyrocketing crime around the country, forcing Asian Americans to feel unsafe in their own neighborhoods.
  • Progressive radicals have allowed criminals with lengthy rap sheets to remain on the streets to commit violent anti-Asian hate crimes.
• Biden and Democrats support "racial preferences" in school admissions, which effectively allows discrimination against Asian American students.
  • Biden's Justice Department failed to protect Asian Americans from discrimination by refusing to sue Yale University for race-based discrimination in college admissions.
  • In 2021, the Biden administration urged the Supreme Court not to hear a case alleging Harvard University "intentionally discriminates" against Asian Americans.
  • 65 percent of Asian Americans support a ban on race-conscious college admissions, according to a Washington Post/Schar School poll. 
• Instead of providing real solutions, all Biden can do is pander and mock Asian Americans. 
  • Biden has used racial tropes to describe Indian Americans, mimicking an Indian accent to describe call centers and claiming "you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent."
  • Biden asked Andrew Yang what he would do if he was "emperor" and referred to Singaporean leader Lee Kuan Yew as "the wisest man in the Orient."
  • Biden awkwardly referred to 29-year-old Masters golf champion Hideki Matsuyama as a "Japanese boy."
