While Democrats Double Down On Their Failed, Far-Left Policies, Hispanic Americans Are Finding A New Political Home With The Republican Party

REPUBLICANS ARE COMMITTED TO THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY 

• The RNC is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by continuing to engage with the Hispanic community and welcoming new members into our party of opportunity. 
• For the 2022 cycle, the RNC has made a multimillion-dollar commitment to promote minority engagement efforts in key states, opening Hispanic Community Centers to bring Republicans’ message of freedom, opportunity, and conservative values to the Hispanic community.
  • 20 RNC Hispanic Community Centers have already opened throughout the country including in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.
• This commitment is not new, with the Republican Party having a long history of making in-roads with the Hispanic community and Republican Hispanic leaders breaking down barriers. 
  • In 1928, Republican Octaviano Ambrosio Larrazolo became the first Hispanic American to serve in the Senate. 
  • In 1971, President Nixon appointed the first Mexican-American woman to be Treasurer of the United States, Romana Acosta Bañuelos. 
  • Ben Fernandez, the co-founder of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly, became the first Hispanic to run for president on a major party ticket when he ran as a Republican in 1980.
  • In 1988, President Reagan appointed the first Hispanic Cabinet member, Dr. Lauro Cavazos, to serve as Secretary of Education. 
  • In 1989, Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen became the first Hispanic woman elected to Congress.
  • In 2022, Republican Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) became the first Mexican-born congresswoman.
• Hispanic voters are flocking to the Republican Party, rejecting Biden’s authoritarian decrees and socialist policies.
  • In 2020, Republicans flipped 15 congressional seats from Democrat to Republican – in each of the seats flipped, the elected winner was either a woman or minority, with four of the seats going to Hispanic Americans.
  • President Trump won 38 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2020, a 10 point increase from 2016.
  • In 2021, Republican Javier Villalobos was elected mayor of McAllen, Texas, a majority Hispanic city, the first time a Republican won in 24 years.
  • In 2021, Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin received more votes than any Virginian in history, winning Hispanics by a 55 to 44
    • Cuban-American Jason Miyares was also elected as Virginia’s first Latino Attorney General.
  • In 2022, Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) won her special election by flipping the traditionally Democrat-held district red.

BIDEN AND DEMOCRATS ARE FAILING HISPANIC AMERICANS 

• With the economy in recession, historically high inflation, and taxes poised to rise on middle-class families, Biden’s relentless attacks on working-class Americans have hurt the Hispanic community. 
  • Under Republican leadership, the Hispanic community saw a record low unemployment rate, record high homeownership, and record low poverty.
• If inflation stopped rising today, Biden’s price hike would cost the average U.S. family more than $8,500 over the next year according to Congress’ Joint Economic Committee.
  • In August alone, inflation cost the typical household an extra $715.
• Biden opposes school choice despite its benefits, such as higher reading and math scores among the Hispanic community. 
• In July 2021, when thousands of Cubans were marching for freedom from the communist Castro regime, Biden failed to forcefully stand up for the Cuban people. 
• Fentanyl pouring over the border has made its way into the Hispanic community causing drug overdose deaths among Hispanics to spike in recent years.
• Instead of providing real solutions, all Biden can do is pander.
  • On the campaign trail, Biden played “Despacito” during a campaign stop in Florida in a phony attempt to appeal to Hispanic voters. 
  • Biden uses the woke term “Latinx” – which only one in four Latino adults have heard of and only three percent use.
  • Jill Biden butchered the phrase “si se puede” while attending a Cesar Chavez event last year.
  • In July, Jill Biden spoke at a “Latinx IncluXion” event where she said Hispanics are as “unique” as “breakfast tacos.”

BIDEN AND DEMOCRATS HAVE ATTEMPTED TO RE-LABEL HISPANICS AS “LATINX”

• Democrats have attempted to re-label “Latino” as “Latinx” in an attempt to use gender-neutral language despite it being “deeply unpopular” among Hispanics and Latinos.
• Numerous Democrats, including Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, Wisconsin Senate candidate Mandela Barnes, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) have all used the woke term “Latinx.”
• Only two percent of Hispanics refer to themselves as “Latinx,” and 40 percent of Hispanics say the term bothers or offends them to some degree.
• As part of Democrats’ failed $1.9 trillion stimulus, $60,000 was spent on a grant to research “Latinx” history.

HISPANIC AMERICANS REJECT BIDEN AND HIS POLICIES

• Only 46 percent of Hispanic voters approve of Biden’s job performance according to the latest The Economist/YouGov Poll.
  • 61 percent of Hispanics believe the country is headed in the wrong direction and 61 percent believe the U.S. is in a recession.
• A majority of Hispanic voters reject Democrats’ agenda of wasteful spending, open borders, and undermining election integrity. 
  • 71 percent of Hispanic voters support requiring voter ID. 
  • 71 percent of Hispanic parents support school choice – even higher than the 65 percent of all K-12 parents that back school choice.
  • A majority of Hispanic voters support Title 42 to help secure the southern border.
• A majority of Cuban American voters believe the Republican Party best represents them according to an Axios-Ipsos poll.
