Kamala Harris Claims The Border Is “Secure”; New Border Data Shows That’s A Lie

THE BORDER CRISIS WORSENED IN AUGUST

• Newly released Customs and Border Protection data shows 203,597 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in August.
  • That is a 329 percent increase from the average number of August apprehensions during the Trump administration.
  • 11,365 unaccompanied children were apprehended. 
  • 104,679 illegal immigrants were apprehended from countries outside the Northern Triangle and Mexico, showing that Biden’s crisis is global.
  • 78 people on the terror watchlist have been apprehended trying to enter the U.S. between ports of entry since the fiscal year began in October.
• More than 2.1 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border this fiscal year, a new record.
  • More than 4.4 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office.
  • This includes the nearly 3.6 million illegal immigrants that Customs and Border Protection has apprehended and the over 850,000 gotaways that have escaped past Border Patrol into the U.S.
  • Border officials say that the official number of gotaways vastly undercounts the illegal immigrants who make it into the U.S.
  • Despite this ongoing crisis, Kamala Harris still claims “we have a secure border.”
• According to one estimate, Biden is spending $20.4 billion on “benefits and services” for illegal immigrants in the U.S. – $4 billion more than the Trump administration appropriated for the border wall.
• Biden has installed a de facto amnesty program in which nearly 50,000 illegal immigrants have had their cases dismissed in court due to his administration’s failure to file the proper paperwork.
• Border Patrol is now encountering as many as 8,000 illegal immigrants crossing the border each day, the highest number of daily encounters in DHS history.
  • A senior DHS official: “We cannot process the numbers flooding our borders and the administration’s solution is scrambling for ways to let people in faster.”

DRUGS FLOW OVER THE BORDER AS CRIME IS SURGING

• Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate, with only a fraction being intercepted as border officials struggle to contain the smuggling.
• 2,204 pounds of deadly fentanyl and 4,969 pounds of cocaine were seized at the southern border in August alone, with much more likely getting through.
  • Joshua Sharfstein of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health: “If they’re seizing a lot, it’s because a lot is coming in.”
  • The amount of fentanyl seized in August is the equivalent of more than 500 million lethal doses.  
  • More fentanyl has crossed the border in the last two months under Biden than in all of FY 2019 under President Trump’s leadership.
• Border agents in the Tucson sector recently seized 187 pounds of deadly fentanyl in one traffic stop – enough fentanyl to kill more than 42 million people.
• In Nogales, Arizona, border agents seized more than 233,000 fentanyl pills in one weekend alone, including 47,000 brightly colored rainbow pills designed to look like candy to attract a younger audience.
  • Over four million fentanyl pills were seized in Arizona in August.
  • Rainbow fentanyl is no longer just a border issue as 18 states have reported rainbow fentanyl seizures.
• 21 gang members were arrested for illegally crossing the border in August, and a total of more than 620 gang members have been apprehended this fiscal year, many with ties to MS-13.

BIDEN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A HUMANITARIAN CATASTROPHE AT THE BORDER

• Despite Biden’s promise of a “fair and humane immigration system,” his open border policies aren’t compassionate; they are deadly.
• Nearly 750 illegal migrants have died this fiscal year attempting to cross the border, making this year the deadliest at the southwest border in history with a month to go.
• Border Patrol agents in the Tucson sector recently rescued a four-month-old infant and an 18-month-old toddler that were abandoned in the Sonoran Desert.
• Eagle Pass, Texas Fire Chief Manuel Mello III: “Two years ago, we would probably make in a year's time about 20 to 25 drownings. Right now, you're looking at maybe 30 body recoveries in a month… We've been seeing a whole lot more children drowning — not like years past. I've been here 30 years.”
  • Last week, 13 illegal immigrants drowned attempting to cross the Rio Grande into Eagle Pass, Texas in just one day.
  • In South Texas, a three-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl drowned the same day attempting to cross into the U.S. with their families.
• Maverick County Deputy Constable Frank Bowles: “We are averaging about one deceased per day… We’re pretty much overwhelmed with the numbers that are coming across, and it’s taking a big toll on the community.”

BIDEN’S OPEN BORDER POLICIES CREATED THIS CRISIS

• Biden’s failed policies created the crisis at the southern border.
  • In Biden’s first 100 days he took more than 94 executive actions on immigration, including halting construction of the border wall and ending the Trump administration’s successful “Remain in Mexico” policy.
• Biden’s own Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz admitted; “There is an assumption that if migrant populations are told that there is a potential that they may be released, that, yes, you can see increases… I do think it will increase, yeah.”
• Illegal immigrants are actively taking advantage of Biden’s border policies, with the El Paso border sector detecting more than 665 adults claiming to be unaccompanied children since October 2021.
• While White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre absurdly claims “it’s not like somebody walks over” the border, thousands of migrants walk across on a daily basis.
  • Illegal immigrants who just crossed the border have confirmed this: “The border is open…everybody believes that the border is open. It’s open because we enter. We come in, free, no problem…We came illegally.”
  • Illegal migrants are even thanking Biden and expressing “gratitude” for keeping the border wide open.
• Democrats are finally beginning to pay attention to the disaster Biden has created at the southern border as thousands of illegal migrants have are showing up in Democrat-run “sanctuary” cities like Martha’s Vineyard, Washington D.C., New York City, and Chicago.
• It’s not just Biden, Democrats across the nation are encouraging illegal immigration.
  • Pennsylvania Democrat Senate candidate John Fetterman openly admitted, “Sanctuary cities is another policy that I very much support” and claimed that they “make everybody safer.”
  • Wisconsin Democrat Senate candidate Mandela Barnes called for illegal immigrants to receive “driver’s licenses” and “in-state college tuition.”
• A Wall Street Journal poll found that Republicans are favored to “secure the border” over Democrats by 26 points among registered voters.
• Republican leaders are done waiting for Biden to act.
  • Doug Ducey (R-AZ) announced that Arizona filled five gaps in the border wall to stop the flow of illegal immigrants.
  • Greg Abbott’s (R-TX) Operation Lone Star has led to more than 290,000 migrant apprehensions and nearly 326 million lethal doses of fentanyl seized in 18 months.
