Biden Doubles Down On Ending Title 42

In The Middle Of The Worst Border Crisis In Decades, Biden Is Fighting To End The Use Of Title 42, A Successful Trump-Era Tool To Secure America’s Borders

BIDEN’S BORDER CRISIS IS ONLY GETTING WORSE

• Biden created a border crisis that has led to more than 3.3 million illegal immigrants crossing the southern border since he has taken office.
  • This includes the 2.7 million illegal immigrants Border Patrol has apprehended in addition to the more than 600,000 gotaways that have escaped past Border Patrol undetected.
  • Each month, Biden’s border crisis continues to set new DHS records.
• Just last week, newly released border numbers showed 234,088 illegal immigrants were apprehended in April at the southern border. 
  • This made April “likely the highest monthly numbers since Border Patrol was formed in 1924.”
• Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate, with only a fraction being intercepted as border officials struggle to contain the smuggling.
  • 1,281 pounds of deadly fentanyl and 11,007 pounds of methamphetamine were seized at the southern border in April alone, with much more likely getting through.
  • Joshua Sharfstein of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health: “If they’re seizing a lot, it’s because a lot is coming in.”
  • Border Patrol seized enough fentanyl in April to equate to more than 290 million lethal doses.
• Despite the historic numbers of illegal immigrants pouring into the U.S. each month, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas still does not “believe the policies of this administration have caused” the border crisis.
• Now, Biden plans on worsening an already critical border crisis by ending the Trump-era policy of Title 42 that allows for illegal immigrants to be immediately expelled from the border.

ENDING TITLE 42 WILL ONLY ADD FUEL TO BIDEN’S FIRE

• On Friday, a federal judge blocked Biden from abruptly ending Title 42 thanks to lawsuits filed by Republican Attorneys General in Arizona, Louisiana, and Missouri.
• The Biden administration promised to appeal this decision, and is already all but ignoring Title 42.
  • This weekend in Yuma, Arizona, border agents encountered more than 1,200 illegal immigrants, yet only 23 were turned away under Title 42 despite the order still being in effect.
• Border officials are now planning for never before seen numbers totaling up to 18,000 illegal immigrants entering every day this spring due to the end of Title 42.
  • This surge will cost American taxpayers an additional $2 billion over the coming months to house, detain, and monitor large amounts of illegal immigrants entering the U.S.
  • This will be 14.8 times as many apprehensions per day as the average day under the Obama administration.
• With the end of this crucial rule, flights carrying illegal immigrants around the country on taxpayer dollars are only expected to increase.
• A Politico poll found that 54 percent of registered voters oppose Title 42 being repealed by the Biden administration.

BIDEN ADBANDONS BORDER AGENTS RIGHT WHEN A ‘SURGE ON TOP OF A SURGE” IS ON THE WAY

• Biden is further abandoning border agents that are already overwhelmed and have struggled to maintain morale.
• Border agents are frustrated, with one agent saying: “Instead of working to secure the border, Mayorkas has created an express lane for entry.”
  • Another agent added, “The only thing he’s [Mayorkas’] ‘effectively managed’ was to piss off every single Border Patrol agent that proudly wears the badge day in and day out.”
• DHS anticipates that 90 percent or more of its Border Patrol agents will be taken off the line to process, transport, and care for illegal immigrants that cross during this surge, further stressing already limited resources.
• Border officials fear that with the end of Title 42 there will be mass illegal immigration that will overwhelm Border Patrol, ICE, and border communities.
• National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd: Once Title 42 ends, “We are ultimately going to wave the white flag of surrender — the cartels are going to control our borders.”
  • Judd: “The only thing this administration is going to be able to do is just release people on a mass scale, that’s it, that’s all they can do.”
• Arizona Department of Homeland Security Director Tim Roemer: “I’m very nervous about the impact it will have on the entire border, and it could potentially overwhelm a lot of resources. It’s just amazing to see the gaps in the wall, and the people pouring through.”
• Cochise County, Arizona Sheriff Mark Dannels: The end of Title 42 will have “a huge impact. We are already outpaced, we are already overwhelmed.”
• Maverick County, Texas Sheriff Tom Schmerber: “You can get rid of Title 42, but not right now, not until we have a solution or control. Right now, there are a lot of immigrants on the other side of the border… close to the border waiting to come in.”

THE SURGE IS ALREADY BEGINNING

• More than 170,000 migrants are expected to cross the border when Title 42 ends.
• Biden’s own Department of Homeland Security estimates up to 25,000 illegal immigrants are already waiting in Mexico for Title 42 to end.
  • This number will inevitably increase with Obama’s former DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson saying, “the lifting of Title 42, I’m sure that news is circulating right now in Central America.”
• Shelters in Mexico are now seeing thousands of migrants “stacking up south of the border” hoping to come to the U.S. with Title 42 ending.
  • Director of a migrant shelter in Mexico Sergio Tamai: “We want to make a recommendation to the Biden Administration. We said there is a tsunami coming. It’s here. And more so when Title 42 is lifted.”
  • Director of the Dulce Regugio Shelter in Mexico Samuel Ruiz: “Every day we are seeing more and more[migrants]. We are full. There is no space. This is a crisis.”

VULNERABLE SENATE DEMOCRATS SIDE WITH BIDEN

• Vulnerable Senate Democrats voted against an effort to extend Title 42, showing their statements about the border crisis aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.  
  • Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), who has claimed to be in-favor of “secure borders,” voted against an amendment that would have extended Title 42.
  • Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) claimed he is “breaking with Biden” and supports Title 42, yet when given the opportunity to do so he voted against extending Title 42.
  • Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) claimed he was against repealing Title 42, but then voted against extending the order just two days later.
  • Sen. Catherine Cortez-Masto (D-NV) claimed that repealing Title 42 is “just wrong,” yet proceeded to vote against an amendment to keep it in place.
