The Republican Party Is Fighting For Asian Americans – A Community That Has Increasingly Been Hurt By Biden’s Policies

REPUBLICANS ARE COMMITTED TO THE ASIAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY 

• The RNC is celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month by continuing to engage with the Asian American community and welcome new members into our party of opportunity. 
• The RNC is opening community centers across the nation to foster relationships with the Asian American community. 
  • Today, the RNC is opening its newest Asian American Community Centers in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • This is in addition to the community centers that have already opened in Dallas, Texas, Berkeley Lake, Georgia, and Westminster, California, with even more on the way.
• The Republican Party has a long history of making inroads with the Asian American community and breaking down barriers with Asian American leaders. 
  • In 1959, Republican Hiram Fong became the first Asian American to serve in the Senate and in 1964 became the first Asian American to receive delegate votes as part of a presidential nominating convention.
  • In 1971, Republican Carlos Camacho became the first elected Governor of Guam.
  • In 1992, Republican Jay Kim became the first Korean American elected to Congress.
  • In 2001, President George W. Bush appointed Elaine Chao to be the first female Asian American cabinet member.
  • In 2007, Republican Bobby Jindal became the first Indian American to be elected governor of Louisiana.
  • In 2010, Republican Nikki Haley became the first Indian American woman to be elected governor of South Carolina, and in 2017 she became the first Indian American cabinet member.
  • In 2020, Republicans Young Kim and Michelle Steel became two of the first Korean American women elected to Congress.

ASIAN AMERICANS ARE MOVING TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

• Asian American voters are flocking to the Republican party, rejecting Biden and Democrats’ failed
• In 2020, Republicans flipped 15 Congressional seats from Democrat to Republican – in each of the seats flipped, the elected winner was either a woman or minority, with two of the seats going to Asian Americans.
• Republicans made inroads in the Asian American community under the Trump administration, with a 7 percent shift toward Republicans from 2016 to 2020.
  • This was even greater in the Vietnamese American community, experiencing a 14 percent shift toward Republican candidates from 2016 to 2020.
• In New York, Republicans recently formed the NYGOP Asian Caucus to stand with the Asian American community and advocate for a growing base of Asian American conservatives.

BIDEN AND DEMOCRATS’ POLICIES ARE FAILING ASIAN AMERICANS 

• Biden and Democrats are failing Asian Americans. 
• Biden has squandered the economic recovery he inherited, with Asian Americans seeing rising prices for nearly everything. 
  • Under Republican leadership, the Asian American community saw a record low unemployment rate, record high incomes, and record low poverty.
• At a time when Americans are paying more for “just about everything,” Biden wants to slam Americans with even more reckless taxes and spending. 
  • 83 percent of Asian Americans with high school degrees in California filed for unemployment during the pandemic, more than double the rate of the rest of California’s labor force.
• Instead of providing real solutions, all Biden can do is pander and mock Asian Americans.
  • Biden has used racial tropes to describe Indian Americans, mimicking an Indian accent to describe call centers and claiming “you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.”
  • Biden asked Andrew Yang what he would do if he was “emperor” and referred to Singaporean leader Li Kuan Yew as “the wisest man in the Orient.”
• Biden and Democrats support “racial preferences” in school admissions, which effectively allows discrimination against Asian American
  • Biden’s Justice Department failed to protect Asian Americans from discrimination by refusing to sue Yale University for race-based discrimination in college admissions.
  • In December, the Biden administration urged the Supreme Court not to hear a case alleging Harvard University “intentionally discriminates” against Asian Americans.
  • Recent Pew Research polling shows 63 percent of Asian Americans do not think race should be a factor in college admissions.

ASIAN HATE CRIMES ARE ON THE RISE UNDER BIDEN

• Biden has allowed crime to skyrocket around the country, forcing Asian Americans to feel unsafe on their own streets.
• In Biden’s first year in office, hate crimes targeting Asian Americans increased nationally by 339 percent.
  • Democrat-run cities saw huge spikes in anti-Asian hate crimes, with San Francisco seeing a 567 percent increase and New York City seeing a 361 percent increase last year.
• A recent poll shows that 83 percent of Asian Americans are concerned with rising hate crimes in their community.
• A Harvard poll shows that 76 percent of Asian Americans age 18 to 29 feel “under attack” in Biden’s America.
