The Biden Administration Is Using Its Power To Infringe On Religious Liberty

BIDEN’S HYPOCRISY ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

• Today, Biden attended the National Prayer Breakfast to discuss religious freedom as Americans of faith suffer under Democrats’ attacks on religious liberty.
• This comes as contributions to religious organizations remains at a historical low and a majority of Americans for the first time “do not belong to a religious institution.”
• With religious liberty under attack, Biden’s policies and failures are further threatening the religious freedoms of people of faith and faith-based organizations.

BIDEN HAS CHOSEN THE RADICAL LEFT OVER RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

• Biden’s “Build Back Broke” legislation blocks religious facilities, such as churches and schools, from using infrastructure funds for improvements.
• In November, the Biden administration rescinded a Trump-era rule that protects the religious liberty of faith-based organizations that contract with the federal government and allows them to specifically hire people who hold their faith beliefs.
• Biden supports the passage of the Equality Act which interferes with religious freedoms and could force faith-based organizations to close their doors.
• Biden’s 2022 budget called for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, which protects American taxpayers from being forced to fund abortion.
  • Biden’s “Build Back Broke” act also abandoned decades of bipartisan consensus by not including the Hyde Amendment.  

BIDEN’S WAR ON CONSCIENCE RIGHTS

• In March, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki refused to say if Biden would force doctors with religious objections to perform abortions.
• In May, Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services redefined “on the basis of sex” to include sexual orientation and gender identity which would impede on doctors conscience rights, forcing them to provide medical care which they fundamentally object.
  • 91 percent of religious doctors and healthcare workers say they would rather quit medicine than be forced to perform procedures “that violate their beliefs.”
• In July, the Biden administration “quietly” dismissed a Trump-era lawsuit against a Vermont hospital where a nurse was “allegedly coerced” into helping with an abortion despite her “conscience objections to abortion.”
  • Marco Rubio (R-FL), James Lankford (R-OK), Tom Cotton (R-AR), and Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), along with 80 Republican legislators, sent a letter to the Biden administration for its failure to “enforce federal conscience laws for Americans of all religious beliefs and creeds.”
• In August, the Biden administration allowed California to “violate federal law” and impede on the “conscience rights of Californians” who do not want to fund abortions.

BIDEN AND DEMOCRATS’ VACCINE MANDATES IMPACT RELIGIOUS AMERICANS

• In November, Biden released an unconstitutional vaccine mandate that would have affected more than 100 million Americans, including religious individuals.
  • Biden’s mandate hurts religious hard-working Americans and gives employers “a lot of discretion when granting religious exemptions.”
• In Democrat-run New York, then-governor Andrew Cuomo imposed a vaccine mandate on healthcare workers which failed to include any religious exemptions.
  • In New York City, a vaccine mandate was imposed for religious private schools despite opposition from Catholic and Jewish leaders.
• In Maine, Democrat governor Janet Mills’ vaccine mandate fails to protect the religious freedom of individuals by removing “the allowance for philosophical and religious exemptions.”

RISING CRIME UNDER BIDEN PUTS RELIGIOUS AMERICANS ON HIGH ALERT

• Democrat calls to defund the police have led to a surge in crime, with fourteen major Democrat-run cities setting all-time high homicide records in 2021.
• The recent spike in crime has impacted religious institutions across the country:
  • In New York City, a synagogue was robbed three separate times.
  • In Chicago, three different churches were burglarized in a week.
  • In Washington, a mosque was robbed of religious items in daylight.
• The wave of crime plaguing the nation has particularly impacted the Jewish community, forcing American Jews to “tamp down their public displays of Jewishness as a way to protect themselves.”
  • Just last month in Texas, an anti-Semitic terrorist attack led to four Jews, including a Rabbi, being held hostage in their synagogue during a Saturday morning Shabbat service.
  • Two weeks ago, a woman was arrested for harassing and spitting on an eight-year-old Jewish child outside a Brooklyn synagogue.
  • In New York, a Jewish man was “left bloodied” after being hit with a metal chair during a pro-Palestine protest.
  • In Lost Angeles, a group of Jewish men were attacked while dining at a restaurant.
  • In Boston, a Rabbi was stabbed nine times outside a Jewish school.
