Monthly Border Apprehensions Rose Yet Again, Crossing 200,000 In July For The First Time In 21 Years

THE CRISIS CONTINUES TO GET WORSE

• In July, 212,672 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, a new 21-year high.
  • It’s a 420 percent increase over last July, and a 353 percent increase from the average number of July apprehensions during the Trump administration.
  • 18,962 unaccompanied children were apprehended, the most ever for a single month. 
• The number of illegal immigrants encountered at the border under Biden has gotten so high that CBP had to adjust their graph’s y-axis to fit the latest July numbers.
• Border apprehensions have continued to increase every single month of the Biden administration. 
  • Over one million illegal immigrants have been caught attempting to cross the border since Biden took office – that’s a higher total than any year since 2006.
  • With July still seeing historic numbers of illegal immigrants apprehended, Biden’s claim that the migration pattern is seasonal has been completely debunked.
• Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate, with 771 pounds of fentanyl and 17,792 pounds of methamphetamine seized at the southern border in July alone.
• 59,691 illegal immigrants were released into the U.S. this month, the largest number since Biden took office. 

CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ARE SUFFERING AS A RESULT OF BIDEN’S BORDER CRISIS

• Biden’s border facilities force immigrants to live in horrendous conditions, with children feeling “like they were in prison.”
  • Children report not having access to water and being served spoiled food with “a foul odor.”
  • Court documents describe the “meager conditions” of one Texas border facility, including “raw food,” “long wait-times for medical care,” and “prolonged stays.”
• Migrant families are being extorted by drug cartels for large sums of money, with some even being killed or kidnapped for not paying.
• An “unusually large number” of illegal immigrants, including women and children, are dying at the border.

BIDEN’S BORDER CRISIS IS A COVID CRISIS

• As Biden pushes mask mandates and government-enacted vaccine passports for American citizens, his administration is releasing COVID-positive illegal immigrants into local communities.
  • In McAllen, Texas, the Biden administration has released over 7,000 COVID-positive migrants since February – 1,500 of which were released in just one week.
• A majority of illegal immigrants in Border Patrol custody are not being tested for COVID.
  • 40 percent of the illegal immigrants released by the Biden administration into Laredo, Texas tested positive for COVID.
  • 300 to 400 Border Patrol agents a day are out of work quarantining, and at least 87 agents have tested positive in recent weeks. 
• COVID-positive illegal immigrants are being given bus and plane tickets to travel through the U.S. as local health systems are paying the price.
• Illegal immigrants in CBP custody are being forced to live in close quarters of 40 to 60 per pod, despite pods meant to have a “COVID-19 enforced cap of 10.”

BIDEN’S OPEN BORDERS POLICIES HAVE CREATED A SECURITY CRISIS

• According to estimates, just 68 percent of the illegal migrants crossing the border are apprehended, meaning an estimated 576,000 illegal immigrants could cross the border and escape undetected into the U.S. this year.
• About 50,000 illegal migrants have now been released into the United States without being assigned a court date – and just 13 percent have appeared at their assigned ICE office.
• According to a CBP analysis of the El Paso Sector, as many as 77 percent of adult illegal immigrants crossing the border by themselves are trying to evade apprehension.

BORDER STATES ARE OVERWHELMED AND LEFT TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES

• Border Patrol agents are overwhelmed and feel “we’ve surrendered the border.”
  • Del Rio Texas Border Patrol Sector Chief Austin Skero: “There are days when we are so busy with processing, care, and detention that I'll only have 12 agents to patrol 245 miles of border and most of them are transporting.”
  • National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd: “Over the weekend we were holding 10,000 people in custody. We don't have the number of agents to watch 10,000 people.”
• As illegal immigrants continue to pour into communities across the U.S., the Biden administration has essentially abandoned local governments.
  • The Mayor of Laredo, Texas, a Democrat, claims Border Patrol is “overwhelmed” and that his city “cannot handle” the influx of illegal immigrants.
  • The Mayor of McAllen Texas agrees this is a health and safety problem for America and complained that his city has “no authority to stop them.”
• Instead of strengthening border security, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is focused on determining the “root cause” of illegal immigration.
  • The Biden-Harris administration’s reckless open borders agenda is the true “root cause” of this border crisis.
• Even allies of the Biden administration have called the White House’s immigration strategy “muddled.”
