Democrats Are Letting Anti-Semitic Rhetoric And Anti-Israel Sentiments Fester Within Their Party

SENIOR DEMOCRATS HAVE GIVEN ANTI-SEMITISM A SEAT AT THEIR TABLE

• On Tuesday, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) went after Jewish Members of Congress who condemned her anti-Semitic comments as not being involved in “justice.”
  • Punchbowl News reported “a number of Omar’s fellow Democrats believe Omar is an anti-Semite, even if they don’t say so publicly.”
• Despite the rise in violent and disturbing attacks targeting the Jewish American community, Democrat leadership has failed to strongly condemn growing anti-Semitism in their own party.
  • Instead, Democrat leaders have embraced anti-Semitism from their colleagues, further emboldening this rhetoric.
• House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has gone as far as calling Omar a “valued member” of the Democrat caucus.
  • Pelosi previously defended Omar’s anti-Semitism, claiming Omar “has a different experience in the use of words” and that she didn’t think it was “intended.”
  • Pelosi admitted that the Democrat party “did not rebuke her” and fervently recommended “no” action be taken against her.
• Biden publicly thanked radical anti-Israel Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for being a “fighter” and said that he admires her.

ANTI-SEMITISM IS ON THE RISE IN THE DEMOCRAT PARTY

• Democrats have allowed anti-Semitic and anti-Israel sentiments to grow in their party.
• Omar has consistently targeted Jewish people and the Jewish state of Israel, accusing Israel of “hypnotiz[ing] the world.”
• Omar has also:
  • Equated Israel’s security forces with terrorist group Hamas.
  • Deployed an anti-Semitic trope, saying support for Israel is “all about the Benjamins baby.”
  • Charged supporters of Israel with “allegiance to a foreign country.”
  • Defended and promoted the anti-Semitic BDS movement.
  • Claimed Israelis “harbor hate.”
  • Accused Israel of using “the guise of self-defense” as the country defended itself from attacks from Hamas.
• Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) said that she got a “calming feeling” when discussing the Holocaust, said “we need to stop” “enabling” Israel while Hamas was launching rockets at civilians, and called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the “Apartheid-in-chief.”
• Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) is an outspoken supporter of the anti-Semitic BDS movement, accused Israel of “apartheid,” and refused to grant an interview to a local Jewish newspaper in her congressional district.
• Reps. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Maxine Waters (D-CA), Danny Davis (D-IL), Andre Carson (D-IN), Gregory Meeks (D-NY), Jim Clyburn (D-SC) and Al Green (D-TX), and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) have ties to anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan.

JEWISH LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS HAVE REPEATEDLY DEMANDED DEMOCRATS CONDEMN ANTI-SEMITISM IN THEIR PARTY

• Last month, more than 200 rabbis wrote a letter directly attributing the mob attacks on American Jews today to “the rhetoric of Rep. Omar and those who stand with her within and beyond Congress.”
  • More than 200 rabbis: “To protect Jewish Americans and, moreover, safeguard the integrity of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, we thus insist upon the removal of Rep. Omar from her appointment.”
• 12 Jewish House Democrats issued a statement slamming Omar, calling on her to “clarify her words placing the U.S. and Israel in the same category as Hamas and the Taliban.”
• In 2019, Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League asked Nancy Pelosi to let the House vote on a resolution to condemn “anti-Semitic statements by Rep. Omar.”
• In 2019, 11 prominent Jewish organizations wrote a letter stating that “we need to ensure that anti-Semitism has no place within the venerable House Foreign Affairs Committee. We therefore respectfully request that Congresswoman Omar be removed, immediately, from the sensitive work of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.”

ANTI-SEMITIC ATTACKS ARE ON THE RISE

• Amid growing anti-Semitic rhetoric in the Democrat Party, violent and disturbing attacks targeting the U.S. Jewish community have also been on the rise.
  • In New York City, anti-Semitic hate crimes have increased 37 percent this year.
• An increase in incidents of anti-Semitic violence have been reported throughout the country.
  • In New York, a group of men harassed Sabbath observers outside a synagogue with anti-Semitic remarks, later violently attacking two Jewish teenagers.
  • In Los Angeles, Jewish diners were assaulted by a group of pro-Palestinian protesters.
  • In Chicago, the Persian Hebrew Congregation’s window was smashed, with a “Freedom for Palestine” sign on the ground beneath the shattered window.
  • In Tucson, a synagogue was vandalized, with a “rock size hole” found in its glass door.
