Senate Democrats’ New Election Bill Is No Compromise, It’s Another Far-Left Attempt To Take Over State Elections

FREEDOM TO CHEAT: ANOTHER FEDERAL TAKEOVER OF STATE ELECTIONS

• With H.R. 1/S. 1 failing, Democrats are attempting to rebrand their failed bill as the “Freedom to Vote Act” and are planning to potentially bring it to the Senate floor as early as this week.
  • This bill is another federal election takeover designed to thwart election integrity, manipulate state redistricting decisions, and slant elections to help Democrats win.
• Democrats claim that their bill is about safeguarding democracy, but it’s really a radical power grab over state-run elections.
• Democrats should call the bill what it really is: the Freedom to Cheat Act.

POWER GRAB: GIVING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT POWER OVER STATE AND LOCAL ELECTIONS

• The Freedom to Cheat Act would eviscerate commonsense state voter ID laws which 36 states have passed.
  • The bill would eliminate these states’ more secure voter ID requirements, replacing them with a process ripe for fraud, where no ID is presented, and a third person only attests that a voter is who they claim to be.
• This legislation would force 37 states to adopt automatic voter registration on short notice, even though past attempts to implement automatic voter registration have led to illegal immigrants being registered and massive registration errors. 
  • This would almost certainly lead to “large numbers of ineligible voters” being registered, including non-citizens.
• 29 States would be forced to adopt same-day voter registration.
  • Combined with the bill’s evisceration of voter ID laws, this would make it easier to commit voter fraud and would give election workers no time to verify a person’s eligibility.

FREEDOM TO CHEAT WOULD GIVE FELONS THE RIGHT TO VOTE

• Like H.R. 1, Freedom to Cheat would force states to let violent felons vote in federal elections as soon as they are out of prison – even if they have not completed all terms of their sentence, like probation or parole – an unconstitutional mandate.

FREEDOM TO CHEAT WOULD USE TAXPAYER DOLLARS TO FUND CAREER POLITICIANS’ CAMPAIGNS

• Freedom to Cheat would be a windfall for career politicians in D.C. at the expense of the American taxpayers.
• Freedom to Cheat includes nearly the exact same campaign funding scheme that H.R. 1 does, where taxpayers would provide up to 600 percent match for political donations under $200.
  • For example, a $200 donation to a House candidate would garner a $1,200 match in taxpayer funds for a total contribution of $1,400.
  • Small dollar political donations topped $2.7 billion in the 2020 cycle, putting taxpayers potentially on the hook for billions more if that same pattern kept up in future elections.

DEMOCRATS WANT TO USURP STATES’ POWER TO DRAW THEIR OWN CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS

• Under Freedom to Cheat, individual states would no longer be allowed to draw their Congressional districts as they see fit, with the federal government instead imposing mandates for how districts are drawn and what they must look like.
• This requirement would take away the ability of voters to make their own choice about how congressional districts are drawn.
  • When legislatures draw boundary lines, voters may “punish egregious behavior at the next election; not so with government-by-commission, which trades accountability for mythical expertise and disinterest.”

BY A WIDE MARGIN, AMERICANS SUPPORT COMMON SENSE REFORMS TO SECURE ELECTIONS

• Democrats are repeatedly running the same lie-filled playbook attacking Republican efforts to secure our elections.
• Americans see through Democrats’ lies, instead supporting Republicans’ commonsense election integrity initiatives by a wide margin.
  • By a 33 point margin, Americans believe that voting in their area is “easy” and want the main objective of any reforms to focus on making sure elections are “fair and free of voter fraud.”
  • Support for voter ID laws has risen 13 percentage points among Black Americans and stands at 81 percent among all voters. 
• 68 percent of voters believe that state legislatures should decide the voting rules and regulations for their state, not the federal government.
• A Republican National Committee poll found that:
  • 80 percent of voters support voter ID.
  • 87 percent of voters are against ballot trafficking.
  • 78 percent of all voters endorse a proposed voting plan with these five common sense measures: presenting voter ID, signature verification, chain of custody controls, bipartisan observers, and cleaning up voter rolls.
