Democrat Disarray Has Forced The Far-Left To Revive Efforts To Enact Power-Hungry Federal Overreaches Targeted At Election Integrity And State Governments

DEMOCRATS’ NEW PRIORITY: A FEDERAL TAKEOVER OF ELECTIONS

• As Biden’s signature “Build Back Broke” legislation sputters in the Senate, far-left Democrats are pivoting to an attempt to upend Senate rules and eviscerate election integrity, part of a desperate “attempt to pass literally anything.”
• Biden has endorsed Senate Democrats’ plans to push for H.R. 4 - the Election Suppression Act – and S.2747 – the Freedom To Cheat Act – before the end of the year.
  • Yet even Biden’s own aides are “bearish on success” given the disarray within the Democrat Party.

THE FREEDOM TO CHEAT AND ELECTION SUPPRESSION ACTS: RECYLCLED ATTEMPTS TO TAKEOVER STATE ELECTIONS

• With H.R. 1/S.1 failing, Democrats are attempting to rebrand their failed bill as the “Freedom to Vote Act” – another federal election takeover designed to thwart election integrity, manipulate state redistricting decisions, and slant elections to help Democrats win.
  • Democrats claim that their bill is about safeguarding democracy, but it’s really a radical power grab over state-run elections.
  • Democrats should call the bill what it really is, the Freedom to Cheat Act.
• Meanwhile, Democrats are also pushing to pass the Election Suppression Act – a federal election takeover designed to thwart election reform and weaponize the Department of Justice.
  • The Election Suppression Act would reapply provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) which were “gutted by the Supreme Court in the 2013 Shelby County v. Holder decision.”
  • This legislation would give the federal government the power to veto state-level election integrity reforms that make it easier to vote and harder to cheat.

FREEDOM TO CHEAT IS A FEDERAL POWER GRAB

• The Freedom to Cheat Act would eviscerate commonsense state voter ID laws which 36 states have passed, allowing individuals to vote by simply attesting they are who they claim to be.
  • The bill would eliminate these states’ more secure voter ID requirements, replacing them with a process ripe for fraud, where no ID is presented, and a third person only needs to attest that a voter is who they claim to be.
• This legislation would force 37 states to adopt automatic voter registration on short notice, even though past attempts to implement automatic voter registration have led to illegal immigrants being registered and massive registration errors. 
  • This would almost certainly lead to “large numbers of ineligible voters” being registered, including non-citizens.
• 29 States would be forced to adopt same-day voter registration.
  • Combined with the bill’s effective elimination of voter ID laws, his would make it easier to commit voter fraud and would give election workers no time to verify a person’s eligibility.

FREEDOM TO CHEAT WOULD GIVE FELONS THE RIGHT TO VOTE

• Freedom to Cheat would force states to let violent felons vote in federal elections as soon as they are out of prison – even if they have not completed all terms of their sentence, like probation or parole – an unconstitutional mandate.

FREEDOM TO CHEAT WOULD BE A WINDFALL FOR CAREER POLITICIANS

• Freedom to Cheat would be a windfall for career politicians in D.C. at the expense of the American taxpayers.
• Under this legislation, the government would provide up to 600 percent match for political donations under $200.
  • For example, a $200 donation to a House candidate would garner a $1,200 match in public funds for a total contribution of $1,400 – with taxpayers footing the bill.
  • Small dollar political donations topped $2.7 billion in the 2020 cycle, putting taxpayers potentially on the hook for billions more if that same pattern kept up under H.R. 1.

FREEDOM TO CHEAT WOULD USURP STATES’ POWER TO DRAW THEIR OWN CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS

• Under Freedom to Cheat, individual states would no longer be allowed to draw their Congressional districts as they see fit, with the federal government instead imposing mandates for how districts are drawn and what they must look like. 
• This requirement would take away the ability of voters to make their own choice about how congressional districts are drawn.
  • When legislatures draw boundary lines, voters may “punish egregious behavior at the next election; not so with government-by-commission, which trades accountability for mythical expertise and disinterest.”

THE ELECTION SUPPRESSION ACT WOULD WEAPONIZE THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AGAINST ELECTION INTEGRITY

• Democrats claim the Election Suppression Act is about updating the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA), but it’s really a radical power grab over state-run elections and weaponize the Department of Justice.
• The Election Suppression Act would force many states, counties, and local governments to “pre-clear” changes in their voting laws and rules with the Justice Department. 
  • The bill sets the bar so low that “it could end up covering almost any city, county, or town in the country,” giving the Justice Department enormous power over state and local elections. 
• The Election Suppression Act would punish states that take commonsense steps to protect elections, such as Voter ID requirements.
• The Election Suppression Act would give the U.S. Attorney General unprecedented authority to send federal poll observers into any state at the federal government’s discretion.
• The Election Suppression Act would allow any “aggrieved citizen” standing to file lawsuits over a state, county, or city’s voting laws. 
• The Election Suppression Act targets states who try to clean up voter rolls, handcuffing local officials who attempt to keep their voter lists up-to-date and accurate.

BY A WIDE MARGIN, AMERICANS SUPPORT ELECTION INTEGRITY AND COMMONSENSE REFORMS TO SECURE ELECTIONS

• Democrats are repeatedly running the same lie-filled playbook attacking Republican efforts to secure our elections.
• Americans see through Democrats’ lies, instead supporting Republicans’ commonsense election integrity initiatives by a wide margin.
  • By a 33 point margin, Americans believe that voting in their area is “easy” and want the main objective of any reforms to focus on making sure elections are “fair and free of voter fraud.”
  • Support for voter ID laws has risen 13 percentage points among Black Americans and stands at 81 percent among all voters. 
• 68 percent of voters believe that state legislatures should decide the voting rules and regulations for their state, not the federal government.
• A Republican National Committee poll found that:
  • 80 percent of voters support voter ID.
  • 87 percent of voters are against ballot trafficking.
  • 78 percent of all voters endorse a proposed voting plan with these five common sense measures: presenting voter ID, signature verification, chain of custody controls, bipartisan observers, and cleaning up voter rolls.
