John Fetterman Prioritizes Inmates Over Victims And Crime Over Safety

KEYSTONE STATE FAMILIES ARE LESS SAFE BECAUSE OF JOHN FETTERMAN

• John Fetterman has made Pennsylvania less safe as Lieutenant Governor, supporting soft-on-crime policies and even going so far as to call for “reimagining the police.”
  • Fetterman put a record number of criminals back on the street through his position on the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons, at one point even threatening and bullying board members who didn’t agree.
• Fetterman openly admits he’s trying “to get as many folks out” of prison as he can.
  • Since the Wolf-Fetterman administration took office, the Pennsylvania prison population has declined by nearly 10,000 inmates.
  • During the pandemic, the Wolf-Fetterman administration bragged about releasing over 8,300 criminals – nearly 20 percent of the inmate population – bringing the Pennsylvania prison population to its lowest level since 2001.
  • Fetterman said that Pennsylvania should have been releasing prisoners “all along” and that the pandemic didn’t change his mind.
  • Fetterman also said that Pennsylvania had inmates in prison who didn’t need to be there and didn’t “need to come back.”
• 13 sheriffs from across Pennsylvania have called out Fetterman’s soft-on-crime policies, highlighting how they contribute to rising crime.

FETTERMAN HAS PUT VIOLENT CRIMINALS BACK ON THE STREET

• Fetterman voted to release violent murders such as:
  • John Brookins, who stabbed a woman to death with scissors, but Fetterman voted to release him because he does yoga.
  • Wayne Covington, who shot and killed a teenager for money to buy heroin.
  • Raymond Johnson, who refers to himself as “a son of the devil,” who violently murdered a man and disposed of his body.
  • Charles Goldblum, who stabbed a man 26 times with garden shears, yet Fetterman said that he was “happy” to release him.
• Fetterman naively thinks violent murders are like Morgan Freeman’s character in The Shawshank Redemption.
• While running for mayor of Braddock, Fetterman tried to garner youth support by highlighting the city’s “connections to the notorious Crips street gang.”
• In 2020, Fetterman excused the violent and destructive BLM riots that broke out across Pennsylvania, saying “the protests and anger and everything is understandable.”

FETTERMAN WANTS TO RELEASE ONE-THIRD OF THE PRISON POPULATION

• Fetterman has been a vocal advocate for releasing one-third of prisoners, and said that reducing the prison population will make everyone “safer or better off.”
  • Fetterman has advocated for releasing one-third of prisoners at least 14 times.
• Fetterman’s soft-on-crime “activism” doesn’t stop there; Fetterman has said if he had a magic wand to “fix one thing,” he would end “life without parole” for murderers and even called life without parole a “tragedy.”
• Fetterman said he wants to “free” all 1,200 second-degree murders in Pennsylvania.

FETTERMAN SUPPORTS TAXPAYER-FUNDED DRUG DENS

• Fetterman has supported taxpayer-funded drug dens and “decriminalizing [drugs] across the board,” including meth and heroin.
  • Fetterman repeatedly tweeted in support of “supervised” injection sites, saying “harm reduction, reduces harm.”
  • Fetterman believes that it is “important that we as a society” provide government-funded drug dens.
  • Fetterman supports needle exchange
  • Fetterman expressed support for an Oregon referendum which decriminalizes “the possession and personal use of small amounts of all drugs.”
  • The Oregon referendum failed to address addiction as the state still has “among the highest addiction rates in the country.”
• Fetterman’s wife, Gisele, supports these programs, saying she would “enthusiastically” want a government-funded drug den in her backyard and that this “isn’t an outrageous idea.”
  • Gisele Fetterman said expanding syringe service programs is “the right thing to do.”
• In Pennsylvania, the heroin and opioid crisis is “the number one public health” and safety challenge, with 5,168 Pennsylvanian lives lost in 2021 to overdoses.

UNDER DEMOCRATS, CRIME IS SURGING IN THE KEYSTONE STATE

• Fetterman endorsed Philadelphia’s District Attorney Larry Krasner, whose soft-on crime policies have led to a surge in violence and crime across the city.
  • After taking office, Krasner fired 31 veteran prosecutors and eliminated cash bail for many offenses, including theft, resisting arrest, and burglary.
  • In 2021, Democrat-run Philadelphia broke its all-time homicide record with more than 560 killed, and so far this year the city is already on track to surpass last year’s record, with more than 1,400 people being shot by August.
  • Philadelphia has seen an increase in other crimes as well, with armed robberies up over 60 percent and retail theft up over 50 percent this year.
  • Philadelphians have suffered more than 1,000 carjackings so far this year, double 2021 and more than four times the average the city saw each year from 2010-2019.
  • A Pew poll shows that 70 percent of Philadelphia’s residents think crime, drugs, and public safety are the biggest issues facing the city.
• Democrat-run Pittsburgh has also seen a spike in crime with the city experiencing 21 percent more homicides so far this year compared to this point last year.
  • Pittsburgh resident Marcus Williams: “I feel like it’s only going to get worse and worse.”
